Team Chicago is a National Team racing the WERA National Endurance Series Team Chicago Challenge is a weekly motorcycle racing television show.

SHOWS PRODUCED DURING 2005

#850, Saturday Night under the Lights, Race 1, January 15, 2005. At this ice track located in front of the Sunset Tavern on Lake Koshkonong, we first watch the heat race action including the 2-250 amateur races, the 250 pro race, Open amateur and Open Pro. After a few comment from the competitors, we show the finals, +40, 125, vintage, 250 amateur and pro, Open amateur and pro and the Dash for Cash.

  #851, Steel Shoe 3-Hour Endurance Part 1, January 23, 2005. We watch the start of this 3-hour race held on Lake Koshkonong, just west of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. With three classes racing, the action takes place on this 2 ½ mile course carved out of the snow on this frozen lake. The action includes the footage from the Team Bear and Team Chicago helmet-cameras.

 

#852, Steel Shoe 3-Hour Endurance Part 2, January 23, 2005, We show the exciting conclusion to this three hour race. The trophy presentation is also shown.

 #853, Saturday Night under the Lights, Race 3, January 29, 2005. Again in front of the Sunset Tavern on Lake Koshkonong, we first watch the heat race action including the 2-250 amateur races, the 250 pro race, Open amateur and Open Pro. After a few comment from the competitors, we show the finals using the Team Chicago Helmet-camera in the plus 50 race to bring the action to the viewers. The rest of the finals are shown.

 #854, Winter Twister Stunt Bike Championship, January 30, 2005, In this show, we cover the competition of the street stunter who have studded up their street bikes to compete on the ice in front of the Sunset Tavern. With big wheelies and other tricks, these bike entertain the large group of fans that have braved the cold.

  #855, Oshkosh Winterfest, Part 1, February, 2005. This race is held on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin. The heat races we will watch include: Open, 505, +40, +50 with helmet-camera and the 450 pros. We listen to a few comments from the fans of this annual outdoor’s event

#856, Oshkosh Winterfest, Part 2, February, 2005, This race is held with the Otter Street Fisheries and we provide the entertainment. Some of the finals include: Dan Schmitt winning overall in the +50/Open Twins race with the Team Chicago Helmet-camera showing all the nail-biting action. Also the Pro 450 race, +40 race, 125 and 250 amateur and the Dash for Cash.

 

#857, Bikes and Beans, 05, February, 2005, This show combines footage from the International Motorcycle Show in Rosemont, Illinois and the ABATE Chili Cook-off held in Park Ridge. We look at some of the action at the show, plus the new models. We taste the chili with other judges and pick a winner.

  #858, CWIRA at Antigo ½ Mile, Part 1, February, 2005 This is track is at the Langlade County Fairgrounds and it is the fastest ice track in the world. Some of the racing action covered include: Open Pro, Pro Quads, Kids, +50 with helmet-camera, Vet B, Junior ATV, 125, Open B and Pro TT. Fixing a ice race tire is shown. (U-matic master tape is missing, DV tape is located.)

  #859, CWIRA at Antigo ½ Mile, Part 2, February, 2005  In part two, some of the races shown include: Pro, Pro Quad, Pro Rubber, Vet Pro, Studded Quads, C motorcycle, Unstudded Quads, 450 Pro, Amateur and Pro TT. Quads on the snowcross track are shown.

#860, Pre-Season Madness, Feb-Mar, 2005. This is a show about getting ready to go race. I show getting the Yamaha’s Air-Tech bodywork prepared and painted at Frank’s Auto Body, located next door to 4 & 6 Racing in Skokie. I talk to some of the other competitor of the WERA series at Jennings GP about their last minute battles to get ready. We also show the staff at 4 & 6 getting their bikes ready for Daytona. As an added thrill, I show some rare footage of the 1981 Yamaha Seca at IRP and my 250 Honda short-tracker at Santa Fe Speedway.

 

#861, WERA Nat’l Jennings GP, Part 1, Edited on 4/25/05 This track is located about three miles west of the first exit in Florida off I-75. We watch the start of the race and listen to a few comments from some of the racrs. During the second hour, the Team Chicago Helmet-camera bring the track to the audience. During this time there is one restart. We also feature the Ready Ramp.

  #862, WERA Nat’l Jennings GP, Part 2, Edited on 4/25/05, In part two there is more helmet-camera action, comments from the racers and all recaps through the sixth hour.

  #863, FREE Roadrace School at Grattan, April 2, 2005. We start with the track walk and then move on to the classrooms. Steve Karson shows how to safety wire, Craig Breckon uses the map to show how to ride Grattan, Phil Young talks about track attitude and safety gear, Penny Blumber shows the flags that the corner workers use and Dan Duram shows the flags of the starter. We wrap it up with the five different groups on the 2-mile roadcourse.

 

#864, WERA Nat’l AutoBahn, Part 1, May, 2005, At this brand new racetrack located by Joliet, Illinois we watch the first couple of hours of this four hour race. We have both the footage from the Team Chicago Helmet-camera and the Team Bear Helmet-camera. A few comments from the riders is added.

  #865, WERA Nat’l AutoBahn, Part 2, May, 2005, In part 2,  the last couple of hours are shown along with one restart. Both helmet-cameras are capturing the action at this track in Illinois.

#866, MEGACROSS ’05, Race 1, May, 2005 As we watch the quads charge into the first corner, we will cove the rest of the racing action at this Tri-County Fairgrounds in Mendota, Illinois. Some of the action includes the 125 and 250 A heats and finals and a few other motorcycle events.

  #867, WERA Nat’l Virginia International Raceway, Part 1, May 20, 2005  Riding with Joe Ball, we challenge this 2-mile roadcourse located near Danville, Virginia. After the start of this 4-hour race we listen to some of the comments from the racers. During the second hour, there is a restart and footage from the Team Chicago Helmet-camera.

#868, WERA Nat’l Virginia International Raceway, Part 2, May 20, 2005,  As Dan records the racing with the helmet-camera, a red flag flies. The action in the pits is recorded and the race continues with more comments and updates.

 

#869, WERA Nat’l Willow Springs, Part 1, June 4, 2005, This track is located about 70 miles north-east of LA. We show the start of this 6-hour race along with some of the comments from the competitors. We finish out the show with the Team Chicago Helmet-camera showing the track and the second hour.

#870, WERA Nat’l Willow Springs, Part 2, June 4, 2005, Ed Sorbo is the guest rider with Dan Schmitt as we watch the conclusion of this race. Team Chicago finishes second in class as we run out of time to catch the team in first in class.

#871, WERA Nat’l Las Vegas,  Part 1, June 25, 2005. This track is located outside the NASCAR track and is about 1.8 miles long. In part one, Boyd Bruner takes the start for Team Chicago, but the bike is running bad. We think it is the battery, but it turns out to be the gas filter in the tank. In part one, we show the first couple of hours.

 #872, WERA Nat’l Las Vegas, Part 2, June 25, 2005, In part two, the last two hours are shown. During the third hour, the Team Chicago Helmet-camera shows the track, but the ride is ended early by mechanical problems. The checkered flag ends the racing action.

  #873, WERA Nat’l Grattan Raceway, Part 1, July 16, 2005. We look at the action at the 2-mile roadcourse located just northeast of Grand Rapids, Michigan. We watch the start and use helmet-camera footage from both Team Chicago and Team Bear. One re-start is show after the first hour.

 

#874, WERA Nat’l Grattan Raceway, Part 2, July 16, 2005. We show more of the racing action with more helmet-camera. We take a brief look at the action on the motocross track on the other side of the front straightaway. With rain falling during the final 40 minutes, we check out the extra challenge of a wet/dry track as the this 6-hour race comes to an end.

  #875 Lake County SuperCross, Part 1,  July 26, 2005 This race is held at the Lake County Fairground in Grayslake, Illinois. We look at a trials demo by the Smagy Brothers behind the grandstands. We cover the +25, 65cc, 250cc races with both pros and amateurs. Dave Derringer is the announcer.

#876 Lake County SuperCross, Part 2, July 26, 2005, We watch the 125 heats for pros and amateurs. Additionally the 250 amateur and pro finals, the Dash for Cash and the 4-Stroke races are covered.

 

#877 WERA Nat’l Summit Point, Part 1, August 6, 2005, At this track located about 60 northeast of Washington, D.C., we watch the start of this 6-hour race and listen to a few of the comments. We cover the restart during the second hour and show the track with the Team Chicago Helmet-camera.

#878 WERA Nat’l Summit Point, Part 2, August 6, 2005, In part 2 we have another restart of the race with more comments from the riders. The Team Chicago Helmet-camera shows more of the track and we include some of the action in the pits.

 #879, Colorado Trail Ride, Part 1, August, 2005. This show takes place in the Gunnison National Forest, located 80 miles from Denver. With local riders Geoff and Dave, Rob and Terry Williams and Dan Schmitt explore the trails through the Rockie Mountains. We listen to some of their comments also.

   #880, Colorado Trail Ride, Part 2, August, 2005. In this show, Rob, Geoff and Dan tackle one of the toughest trails in this region. We follow along with the two helmet-cameras.

 

  #881, WERA Nat’l Talladega GP Part 1, August 20, 2005.  We watch the start of this race held in one of the worst conditions. It is over 100 degrees and the humidity is over 100%. The teams take the start and we watch the action on the entire 1.5 mile roadcourse. With the Team Chicago Helmet-Camera, we see the second hour action.

#882, WERA Nat’l Talladega GP Part 2, August 20, 2005 The action continues with action in the pits and on the track. The Team Chicago Helmet-camera continues to bring the action up close and personal.

 

#883, WERA Nat’l Nelson Ledges, Part 1, September 10, 2005, This 6-Hour race begins at 3:00 PM and runs through 9:00 PM. Joe Ball takes the start and we cover the action and listen to a few comments from the racers.  During the second hour, the Team Chicago Helmet-camera brings the action home.

  #884, WERA Nat’l Nelson Ledges, Part 2, September 10, 2005, In part two, the action continues with great pit action. During Dan’s second ride, the sun begin to set in the west and the racing action becomes much, more interesting.

#885, WERA National Barber MSP, Part 1, September 24, 2005. At this track located just east of Birmingham, Alabama, we race a four-hour race. In this show, we show the start and the first couple of hours. Comments from a few of the team members are recorded.

 #886, WERA National Barber MSP, Part 2, September 24, 2005. In this show we show one of the re-starts and show some more of the comments from the racers. The Team Chicago Helmet-camera captures some of the racing action.

 #887, WERA GNF Road Atlanta, Part 1, October 14, 2005, At the final National Endurance of the season, over forty teams challenge this 2.1 mile roadcourse located about forty miles northeast of Atlanta, George. After the start, we listen to a few comments from the riders. The Team Chicago Helmet-camera shows the track during the second hour.

 

#888 WERA GNF Road Atlanta, Part 2, October 14, 2005, In part 2 , we show the final minutes of the second hour, the third hour and the final hour. Steve Brubaker of Race Tires Service-Dunlop offer his annual tech tip. We watch the members of LA Race in the last race together as a team.

   #889, OMA Nat’l, The Race, October 30, 2005. The final United Off-Road Racing National of the year was held in Morrison, Illinois. With the start at the Bike Barn, the hundreds of racers charge to challenge this 80-mile off-road race. We watch the racing action and conclude with the trophy presentation at the end of the day.

 

 #890: Legends of Chicagoland Racing Brunch, November 27, 2005. This year the special guest is Neal Keen. Neal was one of the greatest short-tracker of the era between 1965-1980. At Santa Fe Speedway, he was the guru that had the best information, the equipment and a good word. Jim Viverito gives the introduction.

#891: Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade, Part 1 December 4, 2005. With snow falling and the temperature in the single digits, the thousands of bikers show up at Dan Ryan Woods on Chicago Southside to start the annual Toys for Tots parade. We get comments from some of the participants and show the Toys for Tots crew at ‘the Rock’ ten days earlier on Thanksgiving Day.

  #892: Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade, Part 2, December 4, 2005. As the parade continues north on Western Avenue, we see some of the footage from the last meeting of the crew of volunteers. With more comments at the Marine Base on Foster Avenue, we check out Open Road Radio at the Abbey Pub and talk to Sam at Illinois Harley-Davidson.
